I am a first-year PhD student at the Department of English, receiving a scholarship from a support programme in Japan.
My thesis focuses on the discourse of habit in modernist literature and culture. It will look at the issue of habit widely in philosophy/psychology (William James and Henri Bergson), novels and critical essays (Virginia Woolf, Wyndham Lewis, and others), and physical culture (Stanislavski's system and body reform movement).
I completed my BA (2006) and MA (2009) in English Literature at the University of Tokyo in Japan, and started my research at Royal Holloway in 2012.
