Personal profile

Héctor Corte-León was born in Asturias, Spain, in 1985. He received his BSci + MSci degree in Physics from Oviedo University, Spain, in 2010 with a specialisation in theoretical physics.

After the degree, Héctor moved to the Chemistry/Physics Analytics department in the same university where he worked in solid samples analysis by time of flight mass spectroscopy. This was followed by a research contract of two years at the battery testing laboratory, also at Oviedo University. There he worked in automatisation of experiments and analysis of large data-sets.

During the period at the battery laboratory, Héctor prepared another MSci degree (in complex systems physics), awarded by UNED University, Spain, in 2012. His final master project was about simulation of neural networks and their applications.

Héctor joined NPL in 2012 through a European Commission Programme, the Leonardo da Vinci fellowship, where he successfully completed a six-month placement with the Quantum Detection Group working on domain wall-based single magnetic bead sensors.

In 2013, Héctor started a PhD between NPL and Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL). His supervisors are Olga Kazakova (NPL) and Vladimir Antonov (RHUL). His research is focused on micromagnetism in nanoestructures and spintronics.

Currently, after his PhD Héctor continues working at the NPL in nanomagnetism and biomedical applications of nanotechnology.
