Personal profile

Personal profile

Gloria is a Nottingham-based theatre-maker, lecturer and researcher, with experience working across a range of academic and creative settings. Through her work as Director of arts organisation Glow and as a freelance theatre-maker, she has developed work in/for both specialised performance spaces and non-theatre spaces including homes, hospitals, schools, cathedrals, museums and village halls. Her creative practice strongly informs her research interests which are focussed around the places and spaces of performance, creative acts of place-making, audience engagement and socially-engaged, participatory arts practices.

Research

Gloria is currently undertaking a PhD in Drama and Geography with Royal Holloway, University of London supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Gloria’s doctorate Bringing Theatre Home, offers a timely contribution to a field of research that deserves close critical and creative attention. Through examining the socio-spatial implications of performance work delivered in domestic settings, the study seeks to re-frame the home as a place of significant cultural and creative activity. Using both cultural geography and theatre practice, the research investigates how two international models for home theatre including the Chicago Home Theater Festival and the Internacional de Cenas em Casa might be utilised to reach and engage people that, for socio-economic reasons, are unable to attend performances in theatre settings.

Teaching

As a Lecturer and Tutor for the Faculty of Arts & Humanities at Coventry University, Gloria has designed, co-ordinated and delivered teaching in professional practice and led on the tutoring and assessment of written submissions for visual arts students. As Link Tutor for the BA Illustration and Animation at Coventry University and Raffles Design Institute, Singapore, she been responsible for the quality assurance and academic development of the above programme.

Gloria continues to work closely with Primary and Secondary schools to deliver theatre workshops and performances across the UK.

Education

Before commencing her PhD, Gloria completed her Masters by Research with the Drama, Theatre & Dance Department at Royal Holloway, University of London and her BA in English Literature & Language at Oxford University.
