Fiction Workshop

The Finish the Book Collective is a weekly novel-writing workshop started in 2014. It's held online using headsets to give feedback on chapters shared in advance, followed up with emailed files with critique.

Poetry Workshops, Prompts and Open Mics

The Poetry Society permitted me to have the only virtual Stanza as part of their network of local Stanza groups. I use the virtual world of Second Life to hold a weekly open mic with international participants and also hold occasional poetry prompts and workshops.

Fiction Discussion

The Short Story Discussion Group has been going every week since 2009 to read and talk about short stories and novellas by authors in English and in translation. It's held online and participants are international.

Research interests

My practice-based PhD comprises a creative component, which is a novel based on the life of the late Victorian writer Mary E. Coleridge, and a critical component which discusses literary biographical fiction. The critical component covers the work of contemporary novelists including Colm Toibin, Julian Barnes, Nuala O'Connor, Jerome Charyn, David Lodge, Emma Tennant, Cynthia Ozick, Michiel Heyns, Andrew Motion, Benjamin Markovits, Adam Foulds, JM Coetzee, Michael Cunningham and more. As the biographical novels by these authors include the Victorian era I also have an interest in this period, and also Modernism as Hilda Doolittle and Virginia Woolf are discussed. Mary E. Coleridge was a late Victorian New Woman, a subject I'm also researching.
