Personal profile

I joined the department as an Honorary Research Associate in January 2013. A public relations specialist, I worked for the British government for five years before completing my PhD in International Relations at SOAS in October 2010. I have held teaching positions at the University of Warwick and SOAS and am currently a Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Portsmouth. I also co-Chair the Africa Research Group in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London.

Research interests

Political communication and public diplomacy in African conflicts; gender and war; African women as agents of security. In 2013 I was awarded a Small Research Grant by the British Academy/Leverhulme to undertake a research project investigating gender and UN peacekeeping initiatives in Africa.
