Geoff Ward is a Professor of English, and has published numerous books and articles on American literature, modern poetry and the legacy of the Romantic movement. His books include Statutes of Liberty (1993; rev ed 2000), the first study of the New York School of Poets, and The Writing of America (2002). He has been a Fellow of the Leverhulme Trust, and has lectured in many countries, working in Japan for a year in 1994-5, and in Washington DC in 2000. A member of the Editorial Board of The Cambridge Quarterly, he has also published several collections of his own poetry, and written and presented programmes on American writers for BBC Radio 3.
