G. 'Hari' Harindranath is a Professor of Information Systems in the Department of Digital Innovation & Management, School of Business & Management at Royal Holloway, University of London. Hari holds a doctorate in Information Systems from the London School of Economics and his research centres on the social and organisational implications of digital technologies, including ICT for development.
Hari is Co-Investigator on the 5-year (2019-2024, £20 million), UKRI GCRF South-South Migration, Inequality and Development Hub (MIDEQ), led by Coventry University. He is the Royal Holloway lead for the work package (£670,000) on ‘Digital technologies, inequality and migration'. Working with Co-I, Prof Tim Unwin (Geography and the UNESCO Chair in ICT4D Chairholder) and PDRA Dr Maria Rosa Lorini, this 'intervention' work package seeks to understand the extent and ways through which digital technologies have alleviated or exacerbated existing inequalities in the context of South-South migration, as well as successes and challenges facing the use of digital technologies for migrant-related development outcomes. It also considers how the potential benefits of ICT can be leveraged to ensure that the developmental benefits of migration are harnessed and increased, particularly through reducing inequalities in ICT access and use.
We are currently working with migrants, migrant organisations and tech companies with the support of international organsiations such as IOM, ILO, UNESCO and GSMA to co-design digital interventions in Nepal and South Africa. See more details HERE, and visit the project website at MIDEQ.ORG.
More details of our ongoing digital intervention work can be seen here - Nepal and South Africa. A recent blog post on our work can be found here and details about the thematic workshop we organised at WSIS 2023 Geneva can be found here.
He is a co-founder of the Association for Information Systems-affiliate conference, International Conference on Information Resources Management (Conf-IRM)
Hari welcomes PhD applicants interested in the following areas: ICT4D; the interface between digital technologies and migration; and the organisational/social implications of digital technologies.
