Emma Capon (MA Cantab, MSc, MBA, PhD) completed her PhD in 2017 at Royal Holloway, University of London.  She was awarded an ESRC Studentship to undertake the PhD.

Emma's research interests are in family business and entrepreneurship.  Her PhD was a qualitative study exploring the role of external relations in shaping inter-generational succession in family businesses and extending theoretical understanding of relational embeddedness.

Prior to commencing her PhD, Emma worked in management-level policy and strategy roles in the Civil Service in London and Northern Ireland. Her last Civil Service role prior to commencing her PhD was as Head of Policy and Strategy to the Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service within the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister in Northern Ireland.  Emma has completed an Executive MBA at Queen's University Belfast and an MSc in Innovation Management in the Public Service at the University of Ulster and was awarded a distinction in both. She holds a First class honours degree in History from St. Catharine's College, University of Cambridge.

Emma continues to be involved in her own family's business, hence her interest in family business dynamics. She has been a PhD Tutor with 'The Brilliant Club', teaching a course based on her PhD research topic to school pupils in low-participation state schools in summer 2014.  During 2014/15 Emma was a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant in the Management, Science & Innovation Department, University College London (UCL), where her duties included delivery of seminars and marking students assignments.  She was also academic supervisor for a student as part of the Royal Holloway Pre-Masters Diploma for International Students.
