Research interests

My PhD is broadly on the experiences of living with Macular Degeneration. This will focus on the experience of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation for patients with this condition. This research is funded by the Macular Society.

Before beginning my PhD in April 2013, I worked on a variety of health related topics both within the charity and academic sector. Most recently I have been involved in the development and testing of a questionnaire designed to measure financial stress and strain in cancer patients. Before this I worked within cancer charities helping evaluate their services delivered to cancer patients. I have also worked within cancer awareness, and have helped develop and test a leaflet designed to increase gynaecological cancer symptom knowledge and decrease delay to help-seeking in women.

My MSc dissertation was on the coping experiences of patients with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome when they returned home after in-patient rehabilitation. Before this I worked at a national charity for patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Teaching

I have taught on the Introduction to Abnormal Psychology course for undergraduates, and have assessed the coursework for this course also.
