Douglas Cowie holds a BA from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, and undertook his postgraduate study at the University of East Anglia (MA, PhD). He is primarily a fiction writer. His primary interests are American poetry and fiction of the 20th Century, in particular the work of Nelson Algren, and most forms of American popular music.  He also has an interest in the history of Germany, in particular the history of the German Democratic Republic.

His most recent publication is a novel, Noon in Paris, Eight in Chicago, which is based on the relationship between Nelson Algren and Simone de Beauvoir.  Prior to that, he published diptych of novellas about America and its music, Sing for Life: Tin Pan Alley  and Sing for Life: Away You Rolling River, both published by Black Hill Press.|

He is currently working on a new novel.
