David Hughes joined Royal Holloway in 2014 from UEA, where he was Postdoctoral Lecturing Fellow in International Relations Theory.
David received a M.A in Philosophy and Modern Languages from Christ Church, Oxford, a M.A. in International Relations from the University of Manchester, and a Ph.D. in International Relations from Oxford Brookes University.
David's research interests centre on IR theory, U.S. foreign policy, and postsecularism in IR. He is the 2014 recipient of the International Studies Association's Robert W. and Jesse Cox Award, which was made for a paper on U.S. exceptionalism that has since been accepted for publication in Review of International Studies. David has also published in International Studies Review, Journal of Religious Ethics, Theory and Event, New German Critique, The Germanic Review, and The Drama Review, among others.
David has teaching expertise in IR Theory, U.S. Foreign Policy, Religion and World Politics, and the History of Political Thought. Last year, he was nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award by the University of East Anglia. He welcomes undergraduate dissertation proposals in any of those four areas.
