Chris Hackley PhD MSc BA BSc PGDip PGCE MBPsS

* Previous academic posts: University of Birmingham and Aston Business Schools, teaching marketing, and the Open University, teaching social psychology, after teaching economics and business studies in Further and Higher Education.

* Qualifications: My PhD from Strathclyde University (AACSB) focused on the management of the creative development process in top advertising agencies. My other qualifications include Marketing (MSc) Business Studies (BA) Social Science (BSc) Psychology (PGDip) and PGCE.      

* Teaching and Research: topics include advertising and promotional communication, media and health policy, marketing management, and qualitative research. I teach on under- and postgraduate programmes for RH in the UK, Hong Kong and Singapore. Research includes some 200 refereed papers, books, conference papers: Google Scholar profile Researchgate

* Administration: I established the Marketing Teaching and Research Group as founding Chair in Marketing at Royal Holloway, in 2004. The group has since grown from three to nineteen full time faculty, and has been ranked in the UK's top ten for marketing. I led the establishment of the MA Marketing at Royal Holloway as Programme Director in 2009-10. Previously, I acted as Head of the Marketing Group and Programme Director of the MSc Marketing at Birmingham University.   

* External and visiting appointments: These include visiting appointments at the University of California, Irvine: Lund University, Sweden: University of Greenwich: Aston Business School; Warwick Business School; the Open University (teaching psychology); PhD examining in the UK, Sweden, Australia; external examining and appointments panel membership in Ireland, Spain, Malta, and the UK.     

* Journal Editorial board memberships include: Marketing Theory: Journal of Marketing Management: European Journal of Marketing: International Journal of Advertising: International Journal of Market Research.  

* Engagement and impact: I have consulted with commercial and government bodies and leading advertising and media agencies on issues such as media regulation and alcohol policy My research and policy comment have been covered in broadcast and print media outlets including BBC TV, Channel 4 News, BBC Radio 4, the Melbourne Age, Harvard Business Review, Times of India and most of the UK national newspapers. I write occasional opinion pieces and features for trade publications such as Times Higher Education, Admap and The Psychologist. I have written two impact case studies for the School of Management's 2014 REF submission based on my joint research into UK TV product placement regulation and UK alcohol policy
