I am an international postgraduate student from Guangzhou (China) who joined the Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London in September 2012. My doctoral research has the working title of 'Food, home and family-making in contemporary Guangzhou'. I am interested in the linkages between food/food practices, contemporary Chinese middle-level families (especially in urban Guangzhou), and wider socio-political contexts (such as the open-door policy, the one-child policy, changing housing policy and marriage laws, the urbanization and modernization of ‘new China’, and the deep-rooted Confucian traditions of Chinese society). My research is partly funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
