Research interests

My PhD will explore how gesture use can support language and literacy. More specifically, the project will look at how children with Specific Language Impairment (SLI) and their parents use gesture naturally when communicating at home.

My research questions are:

  1. Is parental gesture use associated with gesture and language abilities in children with SLI?
  2. Does training families in gesture alter parent and child use of gesture?
  3. What are the relationships between language and  gesture in children with language impairment?
