Personal profile

I am a part time PhD student exploring Kneehigh Theatre company with reference to theories on globalisation and cultural hybridisation. I am particularly interested in their notions of 'Brand Kneehigh' and how this is developed within their self contained performance environment 'The Asylum'. My thesis will explore the potential tensions experienced by the company who have global ambitions, but wish to retain close links with their Cornish heritage and identity.

I have delivered papers at the following conferences:

Jun 12-13th 2013 Paper: “Globalisation and Cultural Hybridisation within Kneehigh Theatre Company – tensions between the local and the global” at Another World of Popular Entertainments International Conference at the University of Newcastle, Australia

In addition to my studies, I am a full time Lecturer and Course Leader in Performing Arts at Kingston College. I have recently been promoted to Team Leader of Creative Industries and Higher Education Lead cross college. These responsibilities require me to work towards improving the quality of higher education with the college, and help manage the performing arts department. My work also includes teaching on the HNC and BA Hons in Theatre and Screen Acting, and I have successfully achieved my Senior Fellowship status with the HEA.

Previously I have worked as a Visiting Lecturer at Lewisham and Southwark College, teaching on the HND in Performing Arts, and also West Thames College on the HND in Performing Arts program.
