Billur’s research interests are in the fields of media and politics with a particular focus on social movements, social media and the Middle East.

She received her PhD from Royal Holloway, University of London in April 2016. Her PhD thesis is titled “Leadership in the Digital Age: The Impact of Repertoires on the Use of Media Technologies during the 2011 Egyptian and Syrian Protests". She was funded by Crosslands and Maintenance awards and was supervised by Prof. Ben O’Loughlin.

Billur’s research has been published in the International Journal of Communication and Participations: Journal of Audience and Receptions Studies.

Presently, she works as a research assistant in different research projects of New Political Comminication Unit of RHUL, Open University and Reuters Institute of Oxford University. She also conducted a social media research with the BBC exploring how audiences around the world responded to the 2012 London Olympics.
