Research interests

"If you must choose one single idea to work on for the rest of your life, what will that be ?"

In 2003, my grandma passed away with severe dementia. At the time, there was no existing technology to help communicating her daily needs, or her whereabouts for the carer to attend to swiftly. It was a struggle for my family to provide her the end-of-life care that she deserved.

For the past decade, my research interests are related to Machine Learning theory and its applications in Mobile Computing and Smart Healthcare. I have published extensively in the sub-fields of contact tracing, indoor navigation, and confidence predictions, winning 2 Best Paper Awards and 1 Best Poster Award.

I have had the pleasure to supervise the following 7 Ph.D students.

Javier Carreño (2023 - present): researching Anomaly Detection for Digital Advertising. TV Broadcast Director.

Alice Ashby (2023 - present): researching Machine Learning for multi-object tracking. "Chris Boyne" Best Undergraduate Thesis Award 2022. Co-supervised with Prof. Cyril Crua at Sussex.

Ajibola Obayemi (2022 - present): researching Multimodal learning. Software Engineering Manager at BCMY Ltd.

Xu (Sean) Feng (2021 - present): researching Machine Learning for Navigation. Owning a patent in sensor design. 85% GPA at Zhejiang University (China).

Robert Choudhury (2020 - present): researching Machine Learning for Mobile Security. Telecoms software engineer. Distinction in MSc in Information Security at RHUL. Co-supervised with Prof. Zhiyuan Luo.

Julia Meister (2021 - 2024): researched Machine Learning for Digital Health. Top 10 students in BSc Computer Science cohort at RHUL. Bronze Award Winner of STEM for Britain 2023.

- Nery Riquelme-Granada (2018 - 2021): researched Machine Learning for Data Summary. Best Research Paper award at the 9th DATA 2020 international conference. Co-supervised with Prof. Zhiyuan Luo.
Thesis: "Coreset-based Protocols for Machine Learning Classification".

I am keen on supporting enthusiastic students who would like to apply their ideologies to impact the real world. If you are interested in doing research on the above topics, feel free to get in touch.
