Amany Elbanna is Professor in Information Systems and Digital Transformation.  She holds a MSc and PhD in information systems from The London School of Economics and Political Science in addition to MBA and a Diploma in Marketing and Physical Distribution.

Research focus:

Amany's research focuses on digital transformation and digital ways of working.  She adopts sociotechnical approaches to examine the implementation and impact of new technology. She is specialised in qualitative in-depth undertsanding of technology in context and in relation to organisations and users (individuals, groups, communities and society).  Amany published over 90 refreed academic papers in top international journals and conferences.  Her work covers wide range of technologies including digital platforms, crowdsourcing, Chatbots, AI, ERP, VR and systems  such as e-procurement.  This is in addition to her work on IS project management and Agile software development. Amany has a wide experience in different industrial contexts and sectors including manufacturing, financial services, healthcare, food and beverages, postal services, government and public sector and emergency response.

 

Academic positions and standing:

Amany is the current Vice-Chair of International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) Working Group 8.6 on ICT Diffusion and adoption.  She is the past Chair of the Special Interest Group on Enterprise Systems (SIG ENTSYS) at the premier Association of Information Systems (AIS).  She is Chair of the Doctoral Consortium of the European Conference of Information Systems 2023 and has served as co-Chair of the Doctoral Consortium of the Mediterranean Conference of Information Systems in 2009, Program Chair of IFIP WG 8.6 Conference in 2022, 2017 and 2018 (International Federation of Information Processing Working Group on Technology Adoption and Transfer), Chair of ECIS 2018 Workshops and Panels (European Conference of Information Systems) and chaired and participated in panels in many premier IS conferences including International Conference of Information Systems (ICIS), European Conference in Information Systems (ECIS) and IFIP WG 8.6.

Amany is a member of the Editorial Board of Information & Management, Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), Information Technology & People, Scandinavian Journal of Information Systems and Journal of Enterprise Information Management and past Associate Editor of Information Systems Journal.  She won the Outstanding Reviewer Award from the European Journal of Information Systems in 2021 and earned her place in the Hall of Fame of the Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS) since its inception in 2020 and won recognition awards from the journal in 2016 and 2018.  

She is a reviewer for most top IS journals and a number of top management journals including Information Systems Research (ISR), MIS Quarterly (MISQ), European Journal of Information Systems (EJIS),  The Journal of Strategic Information Systems (JSIS), Journal of Information Technology (JIT), Information Systems Journal (ISJ), Journal of the Association of Information Systems (JAIS), Information & Organization (I&O), Information Technology and People (IT&P), MISQ Executive, Management Science, Organization Studies, Nonprofit and Voluntary Sectory Quarterly.  

Amany is a regular speaker in industry and her research is featured in The Financial Times, Computer Weekly and The Manufacturing Magazine and has been cited in WHO and the World Bank publications.  She is the former Director-elect of Professional Development of the UK Chapter of the Association of Change Management Professionals (UK-ACMP) .

Her work is published in internationally leading journals including MIS Quarterly, the European Journal of Information Systems, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Information Systems Journal, Journal of Information Technology, IEEE Software, The Data Base, Information Technology and People, Communications of the AIS, Information Systems Frontier, Journal of Enterprise Information Management and in the proceedings of many international IS conferences including the International Conference of Information Systems (ICIS), The European Conference of Information Systems (ECIS), International Federation of Information Processing (IFIP) WG 8.6 and WG 8.2, Americas Conference of Information Systems (AMCIS), Mediterranian Conference of IS (MCIS), Bled e-Commerce Conference in addition to many international workshops. 

PhD Examination: 

Amany has examined over 17 PhD dissertations nationally and internationally including in The London School of Economics - UK, Brunel University - UK, Copenhagen Business School - Denmark, University West- Sweden, Macquarie University-Australia, UNSW Canberra-Australia, Auckland University-New Zealand, RMIT University-Australia, IIM Bangalore-India, Birkbeck College University of London, Queen Mary University of London, UNSW Sydney-Australia.

Amany is happy to explore and discuss ideas with potential PhD students and supervise in areas related to her current research interests including:
