Personal profile

Personal profile

I am a PhD researcher studying bisexuality and asylum in the UK and France.

My project asks how the experiences of bi+ people seeking asylum in the UK and France vary from those of other queer people. I consider what these experiences and specific obstacles tell us about how understandings of (bi)sexuality are (re)produced by the border, how queer asylum upholds bordering, and how we may work towards abolishing borders. The project incorporates interviews with queer and trans people seeking asylum, as well as those who work with them; critical discourse analysis of state documents, including tribunal decisions; and archival research. It has included a stay as a visiting researcher at CRIDUP at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne while I conducted my fieldwork in France, as well as an extended period of fieldwork in the UK.

More broadly I am interested in queer and feminist IR, critical migration studies, and international political sociology.

I am also involved with queer migrant solidarity organising in London, which informs my work.
