Mineral Exploration

Cobalt is an ever-growing, necessary component to support modern technology and facilitate a future carbon-reduced society. The global supply of cobalt is currently at risk due to increased demand from few known supplies, therefore making the prospection for new primary sources of cobalt a priority. The English Lake District offers opportunity to study multiple deposit styles that bear ‘energy-critical elements’ like cobalt. Mineralisation of ore here is spread across a range of different geological settings, providing a prime target to conduct investigations into how cobalt-bearing mineralogy varies across the region. By building genetic models for these ore deposits, we can develop a better understanding for how they could form globally on a more economic scale, fostering greater efficiency to future cobalt prospection.

Climate and Health

Understanding the relationship between climate change and livestock health is essential to safeguarding global food supplies, economies, and antibiotic efficacy. To address this, I work to develop climate-related risk assessment mapping tools to help predict future outbreaks of livestock disease by modelling relationships with present day / historic data. These in turn can be used for transdisciplinary research initiatives to approach disease management with pragmatic spatial context.
