Quantum Dynamics

The research conducted by the quantum dynamics group at Royal Holloway consists of 3 main areas, directed by our faculty members and supported by the group's post-docs and PhD students:

  • Koenraad Audenaert, Alastair Kay, and Ruediger Schack explore the information-theoretic properties of quantum mechanics, from foundational issues in quantum mechanics, through to the use of resource-like quantities such as entanglement and how they can be consumed to perform interesting new tasks such as quantum cryptography or quantum computation.
  • Jens Bolte works on quantum chaos, which is concerned with the study of the transition in the behaviour of small quantum systems as they become larger and more energetic, i.e., more "classical".
  • Francisca Mota-Furtado and Pat O'Mahony work on the interaction between light and atoms, particularly for intense light souces.

We run a regular seminar series, details of which can be found here.

We welcome applications from prospective PhD students at any time and details on how to apply are given here.
