Organisation profile

The Politics, Development and Sustainability (PDS) Group was formed in 2011 bringing together the existing strengths of, and synergies between, the Centre for Developing Areas Research (CEDAR) and the Politics and Environment Research Group (PERG).

The Group is committed to conducting research which seeks to understand and contribute to addressing problems of social inequality and injustice. Members’ research is carried out in varied locations in the UK and beyond, often building on long-standing collaborative relationships with partner academic institutions, governmental and non-governmental organisations.

The Group has a large and vibrant postgraduate community with about 35 PhD students. We also run the MSc in Practising Sustainable Development and are partners (with the School of Management) in the MSc in Sustainability and Management. In September 2011 we introduced an ICT4D stream into the Practising Sustainable Development MSc. Since September 2012 we have been running the new MSc in Geopolitics and Security (with the Department of Politics and International Relations).

PDS Members also participate in College centres such as the ICT4D Centre, the Centre for Research into Sustainability (CRIS) and the Humanities and Arts Research Centre (HARC).
