Organisation profile

Since the foundation of the Centre for the Reception of Greece and Rome in 2007 the centre has acted as a hub where interests of staff and postgraduate students in many disciplines across Royal Holloway have come together to new research, research co-operations and disciplinary initiatives.

The centre's focus is on the sociological, political, philosophical and historical bridges between the contemporary world and Mediterranean antiquity. The Centre has particular expertise in the political and literary-theoretical contribution of the Classical. Since its foundation, the Centre has sponsored books on subjects such as slavery and abolitionism, the Classical ruin, India and the Classics and conferences on themes such as Derrida and the Classics, the Classics and France, The End of the World. Students have studied the reception of literature and drama, ideas of empire and the city, theories of literature. For more information, see our website at CRGR
