Time and Temporality in the Medieval Consciousness, Leeds International Medieval Congress (IMC)

Description

Session at the 2017 Leeds International Medieval Congress in Leeds.

Notions of time and temporality can be consciously intellectual, as exemplified by the works of an Augustine, Bede, or Aquinas, but they can also be popular and prosaic, to be found in medieval popular culture or in the ordering of everyday life. Bringing together three papers from three very different historical periods, this session aims at an interdisciplinary exploration of 'temporalities' in the European Middle Ages, reaching across the vast chronological boundaries of the discipline in order to reflect critically on 'temporality' as a core concept in academic medievalism as a whole.
