Suriashi as a systematic design for urban spaces at Tokyo Metropolitan University

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Ami Skanberg Dahlstedt - Speaker

2 hour talk and workshop on suriashi, where students will get a brief introduction, then make a group walk, and then proceed with specific tasks:

By intervening peacefully in urban spaces together, the slow walking might become a tool to approach our cities, while investigating the location of bodies and immaterial and material monuments, and thereby challenge how we relate to each other.

Specific tasks: The students will work in smaller groups. They will choose a space where they will walk in suriashi for 2 minutes. The walk will be documented by a student on a mobile phone. The other students have the task to write down any thoughts or reflections about how surriashi can affect a landscape.
After the task, we walk back to the class room to look at the mobile phone films, read the reflections loud and discuss together.
