Description

Performance - The Enduring Epistle: the Holocaust, Time and Performance

A collaboration between Natalie Mathieson, Didier Morelli and Nik Wakefield.
This performance lecture will present embodiments of a sustained letter-writing engagement between three academics concerned with three Jewish philosophers who were affected by the Holocaust. During the Holocaust, Emmanuel Levinas, Henri Bergson, and Primo Levi struggled against fascism in different ways. This praxis session seeks to make sense of how each philosopher’s access to the extreme marked his thinking. Rather than imagin- ing a straightforward dialogue between Levinas, Bergson, and Levi, we will entwine their notions of time, freedom, and performance with our own, as rendered through our creative missives that will be exchanged over a six-month period.
