Moving places: opening our bodies to creatively experience landscape

Activity: Participating in or organising an eventParticipation in workshop, seminar, course

Simon Cook - Participant

This workshop brings together RHUL postgraduates and staff from different disciplines (in particular English, Drama, Cultural Geography, and Music) to participate in a day-long workshop and explore ideas around body, place and space through somatic creative movement practice.

We will challenge prevailing thinking on landscape and place, by investigating how we can use our bodies and attention in different ways, how different forms of movement affect our engagement with landscape, and how we can translate pre-verbal experiences as experienced in our bodies into language and creative writing. Our aim is to create a further body of work to challenge our relationship with place. The workshop will take place both inside and outside in Russell Square.

Our facilitator, Korina Biggs is an experienced somatic creative movement practitioner and teacher. She has a background in physical theatre, and a MA in Dance and Somatic Movement from UCLAN. She has a particular interest in how we interact with the landscape with our bodies, and how we can creatively respond. Further information about Korina can be found here.
