Laura Neff - Participant

"Risk of Surgery and Risk from Surgery: Abdominal Operations in Victorian Britain 1860-1890"
These were the important questions that surrounded every operation: what was the risk to the patient? What was the risk to the surgeon? And what was the risk to surgery? This talk will explore how surgery evolved into a respectable profession when post-operative mortality rates were high and few patients were restored to health.
