Description

The launch of Dr Georgios C. Liakopoulos’ volume The Early Ottoman Peloponnese took place at the British School at Athens on 24 February 2020. The volume contains an annotated edition of the hitherto unpublished Ottoman taxation cadastre TT10-1/14662 composed ca. 1460–1463, following the conquest of the Byzantine Peloponnese by the Ottomans. Speakers included Professor Francis Robinson (Royal Asiatic Society and Royal Holloway), Professor Paraskevas Konortas (University of Athens), Professor Georgia Katsouda (Academy of Athens), and the author, Dr Georgios Liakopoulos (Max Planck Institute, Jena). The event, which was well attended, was organised jointly by the British School at Athens, The Ibrahim Pasha of Egypt Fund, The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, The Gingko Library, and The Hellenic Institute. The volume was dedicated to the memory of Julian Chrysostomides, who supervised Dr Liakopoulos’ thesis at the Hellenic Institute, History Department, Royal Holloway, University of London.
