Written evidence submitted to the UK Home-based Working Committee, House of Lords

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

This written evidence draws on a qualitative study of 33 women academics, working in UK Higher Education, who experienced an emergency transition to remote work as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The research explores the impact of this transition on wellbeing, career development and the development of resilience with specific attention to gendered experiences and institutional support. The evidence, informed by lived experience, reveal both opportunities and challenges linked to remote and hybrid working and offer policy recommendations. In parts we also draw from research conducted in Australia and New Zealand to offer comparative insights from different national contexts.
