Abstract
William Wordsworth is a play based on the life of the famous English Romantic poet. It was commissioned by English Touring Theatre and debuted at The Theatre by the Lake in Keswick, Cumbria, running from 31 March – 22 April, 2017.
This play returns to the subject of my doctoral thesis and draws on my extensive knowledge of the period, re-imagining for twenty-first century audiences a pivotal moment in this famous poet’s life. The working title for this play was The Wordsworth Children, suggesting the ways in which Wordsworth’s familial and social contexts are, in my view, crucial to our understanding of the poet.
