Abstract

Whatever Weighs You Down is a work by Neil Luck and Zubin Kanga, in collaboration with Chisato Minamimura. It features the use of the MiMU gloves (Cyborg Soloists industry partner), which facilitate a new type of collaboration between a Deaf artist (Minamimura) and able-bodied artists. Minamimura's performance is integrated into the work through the use of multiple video screens.

The work explores the way media and language is altered for different audiences (including 'object-based media'), issues of language and translation, and how gesture and sound interact across a range of media and instruments.

The work is composed for solo performer on piano, voice, movement, MiMU gloves, live electronics, accompanied by two videos
