Abstract
Analysis of the surviving materials (Henslowe's Diary) concerning a lost play by Wentworth Smith. Suggestion that it was a play about the Gowrie brother's conspiracy, and thence antecedent to the lost play on the same subject put on by Shakespeare's company, and a Scottish play anterior to 'Macbeth'.
