Abstract
‘to forget: of air’, part of the Gorchakov’s Wish series of works, is comprised of numerous clips shot on location at Bagno Vignoni, Italy. This piece documents the atmospheric conditions of this site, which was the original location of the penultimate scene of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Nostalghia (1983). In screening the piece, our intention is to draw attention not only to the material qualities of the place ‘behind’ this scene from Tarkovsky’s film, but also to draw attention to the phenomenology of the projected image itself. Foregrounding the materiality of mediation itself, we allude to the futurity inherent in Tarkovsky’s ‘nostalgic’ cinema insofar as this emphasis echoes concerns of a contemporary critical art practice.
