Abstract

This essay examines the experimental poems and sculptures of German artist Kurt Schwitters during his exile in the British Isles from 1940-48. The essay argues that the poetic and sculptural output are subtly but meaningfully connected.
The publication accompanies the exhibition 'Total Schwitters' taking place at Musée National Picasso-Paris from 5 October 2026 to 7 February 2027.
