Abstract
This article explores the representation of Bond’s American allies in order to better understand how American geopolitical interests are reflected in the film franchise. It explores the intersection of nationality with gender and race, and how these social locations shape our reading of American characters and inform the nature of their relationships with Bond. Through a close reading key American figures such as Felix Leiter and American Bond Girls Holly Goodhead, Pam Bouvier, and Jinx Johnson, we note that male and female characters offer different images of American identity that are mobilized in key ways to help shift the tone and geopolitical direction of the franchise.
