Abstract

Testing Times is an immersive audio experience which creates an unfiltered and unromanticized portrait of family life during a global pandemic. It features material from over 50 hours of phone calls and voicemails, I recorded with friends, family and doctors during multiple lockdowns. I collaborated with my 18 year old son to capture our conflicting and contrasting experiences of lockdown life. We hear the monumental bust ups, when tempers fray and doors slam. But we also hear the camaraderie and humour as we live their increasingly separate lives side by side.

Testing Times was in competition at IDFA in Amsterdam in November 2021. This audio installation was also exhibited at the True/False Festival in the US in March 2022
