Abstract

This interdisciplinary research, led by Dr. Maureen Ayikoru, examined the indirect impacts of COVID-19 on Uganda’s healthcare system in 2021-2022, focusing on the formal-sector healthcare professionals' experiences during the pandemic’s first year. The team included Dr. William Worodria (Makerere Lung Institute), Dr. Jennifer Cole (RHUL), Associate Professors Milburga Atcero and Joseph K. Bada (Makerere University Business School), Dr. Ivica Petrikova (RHUL), and Professor Anica Zeyen (RHUL). Funded by an Internal Quality-Rated Global Challenges Research Fund, the project aimed to inform recovery strategies through insights and policy recommendations, highlighting effective pandemic responses and areas for improvement based on healthcare professionals’ priorities and broader societal needs for future public health emergencies.
