Abstract
Integration of a suitable supply chain system with Industry 4.0 in the face of evolving sustainability consciousness is of paramount importance to the engineering and manufacturing industry at large; it is gradually becoming an irresistible option for managing production effectively and efficiently in the sector. Industry 4.0, also referred to as "smart factory", enables addressing issues such as food safety, security, control, perishability, competitive pressure, demand predictions, etc. within the food manufacturing aspects. The paper examines the challenges and opportunities for advancing technology, the implications of Industry 4.0 for sustainability, and, more closely, sustainable food supply chain environments.
