Abstract
This chapter considers the use and recontextualization of Morricone’s music in video games. In particular, it considers both the use of specific pieces of Morricone’s pre-existing music in games, and the ways in which distinctive aspects of his style have been adapted to fit an interactive soundworld. It uses Red Dead Revolver and Red Dead Redemption games as primary examples. It considers how is Morricone’s music adapted, and the aesthetic changes that result as part of this adaption. Of particular concern is how Morricone’s music in the film medium is different from a situation where the player/viewer can affect the action and musical materials.
