Abstract
The mini-skirt, Afghan coat and denim jeans are discussed as different kinds of global fashion happenings during the 1960s. The article goes beyond the orthodox focus on key fashion centres and diffusion of trends, to consider different geographies of adoption, adaptation and recoding of fashions in the period. This is a contribution to a wider consideration of the nature of the 'global sixties', associated with an exhibition and events at the Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam.
