Managing Human Resources in China: The View from Inside Multinationals

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

“Let’s face it. Our employees won’t stay long. They are fresh, they are young, and they change their gadgets, their girlfriends, and their jobs. But at least, they learn things very fast.”

Employee commitment and compliance may be missing from the Chinese workforce. But MNCs were not put off by labour troubles: all they needed to do was to develop viable management policies and practices to source, train, retain or replace the local workforce. From the angle of local stakeholders, which include managers, workers, union leaders and government officials, this book shows pains and gains, achievements and setbacks, fantasies and realities of managing the Chinese workforce, which is ever pragmatic, increasingly assertive and constantly on the move.
