N2 - In this chapter we present the data paper as a form of publication that aims to give relevance to the work of data curation and processing. We will devote specific attention to the role of this type of publication in the humanities. After finding as complete a definition of the data paper as possible, we propose an analysis of the evolution of data papers over time. We try to identify the obstacles that may have influenced the lesser fortune of data papers in the humanities and social sciences so far, drawing attention in particular to the extreme heterogeneity of research topics and data types in these disciplines. Then we will introduce the Journal of Open Humanities Data, which is specifically dedicated to publishing data-driven papers for the humanities and social sciences., and we will share our experience in this field. We will also present a study on the impact of data papers on the reuse of the data they describe, in order to detect possible correlations between data papers and data reuse. In conclusion, we propose a model in which the data paper is only one of the options available to the scientific community to disseminate research results, as well as the work on the data, by adhering to the values of open science.
