Abstract

Part of the Gorchakov’s Wish series of works, ‘Kino Haiku’ is an installation work responding specifically to the penultimate scene from Andrei Tarkovsky’s film Nostalghia (1983). The installation consists of DV video projection, plexiglass box supported by timber structure, steam, laser light, coal and text. The assemblage embodies the psychological space of Tarkovsky’s film image in this scene, whilst constructing a further immersive environment to extend a phenomenological appreciation of the film image in its relation to place; specifically, the Santa Catarina Pool in Bagno Vignoni, where the ‘original’ film image was shot.

The work was exhibited as part of the Spaces and Narrations Group Show at the Triangle Space, Chelsea College of Art.
