Abstract
This article explores the cinematic portrayals of the amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne. Bourne's odyssey is plotted against a number of themes—gender, dangerous places, and apparently banal things, such as paper files. It provokes interesting questions about how a “known unknown” is addressed by national security managers.
