Abstract
The chapter addresses Iain Sinclair's return to Peru and his great-grand-father's expedition there in his recent book, The Gold Machine. It begins with his earlier fictional use of this material (and its imbrication in Conradian material) in his novel Dining on Stones. It then addresses his uses of Conrad in his travel narrative in Peru.
