Abstract
Offers a complete thematic survey of the conventions used in all types of French opera in the eighteenth century, and includes tables to build up a picture of important repertory works. Dramatic categories (e.g. 'Tragedy', Pastorals') are treated separately from constituent elements (e.g. 'Solo vocal forms') but the latter are cross-referenced all through.
