Abstract
A) The framing of critics as fans can reimagine the way we value different forms of critique and reconfigure persistent hierarchies within the critical community.
B) My own history as a theatre blogger and zinemaker exemplifies some of the broader questions of form and motivation which amateur critics must negotiate.
C) The theatre industry’s current enthusiasm for the fanzine, a nostalgic form of ‘DIY’ publication, is not as politicised, democratic and countercultural as they think it is.
