Evaluation of staff's training in a residential Care home for People with Dementia

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

Abstract

Care home staff mentioned that they struggle to communicate effectively with residents with dementia. Staff reported that they find it challenging to deal with certain behaviours such as ‘repetitive questioning’, ‘walking about’ etc. There are barriers in communication which may have an adverse effect on the communication and engagement between staff and residents. This service evaluation is to explore the effectiveness of training currently provided to staff and to identify gaps in training particularly on communication aspects of dementia care. Based on the findings from this service evaluation, there would be an opportunity to provide training to staff to improve communication between staff and residents with dementia.
