David Storey’s Analysis of HRM Formality, Firm Size, and Self-Reported Job Quality

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

This chapter presents the pivotal findings and contributions of a landmark study that explores the relationship between firm/workplace size, HRM formality, and self-reported job quality (SRJQ), utilizing data from the Workplace Employment Relations Study (WERS) of 2004 (Storey et al., 2010). The award winning inter-disciplinary study spearheaded by Professor David Storey, Professor Paul Edwards and Professor Robert Blackburn challenges the conventional wisdom that has traditionally advocated for formality regardless of firm size. The Chapter concludes by highlighting its substantial contribution to advancing key academic debates and informing policy and practice.
